President’s Report 2009
A Program of activities, linked with Scottish Australia Heritage Council events around the State, have been attended and the Clan Banner displayed by members at Hyde Park Sydney, Mosman, Burns Supper SAHC; Culloden Commemoration Balmain; Anzac Day Wreath at Sydney Cenotaph; Bundanoon Highland Games; Celtic Festivals at Glen Innes; Wingham; Castle Hill, Hyde Park Sydney and Beardies Festival Glen Innes.


These photos show ‘Stone from stream by Struan Kirk in Scotland’ being placing in the History Wall at Glen Innes’ Standing Stones Memorial to its Scottish heritage..
An Information Folder on Clan Donnachaidh has been lodged by the President at Scottish House, a tenant at Returned Soldiers Memorial House opposite Guildford Railway Station Sydney, in their Clan Collection.
The President has also arranged with Stanton Library, Ian Hoskins Council Historian of North Sydney Council [234 Miller St] for updating an Archives collection of Clan materials. This collection gathered by the President covered the history of Robertson Point, building of Clan Donnachaidh Cairn at Robertson Point as part of the “1988 Clan Donnachaidh Congress & International Gathering, an Endorsed Bicentennial Activity”, It has .photos, Clan Donnachaidh Annuals; Members Lists and material from past gatherings.
Contact was made with the Chief and Scottish Australia Heritage Council for the Chief to be their guest in Australia in a year to be arranged. Jim Reid and Bruce Robertson in Sydney were asked to carry this forward as our representatives on SAHC.
Due to injury the President was unable to attend Clan AGM in Scotland and ‘Home Coming’ events in July and confirm arrangements for Chief’s visit which has now been postponed.
Rev. William Wallace Robertson as President thanks Gordon Robertson as Secretary/Treasurer, with Rev Roger Reid, John Coombs Clan Piper, Barbara Davis, Helen Robertson and George Robertson-Dryden as Committee members who have met in Sydney, Glen Innes and Bonnells Bay, Lake Macquarie. I look forward to us growing stronger in future years and pay tribute to the excellent work done by members.

Clan Donnachaidh Society New South Wales, Inc., an incorporated Association in NSW, promotes the history, heritage, traditions and sentiments of Clan members in NSW, from Scotland and elsewhere in the world, through gatherings,education, research, publications, and maintaining records & sites (e.g. Cairn on Robertson Point, Sydney).
Clan Donnachaidh Society New South Wales, Inc. is related as a "Branch" of the Clan Donnachaidh Society in Scotland, which for over a hundred years has promoted the welfare of families scattered through the United Kingdom after Culloden, and later clearances in Scotland, throughout the world with migration to Canada, America, Australia, New Zealand, and elsewhere where there are now branches.
The Clan name comes from Gaelic, the native language in the 19th century of families, and associated descendants, from Donnachaidh or Duncan, , 7th C and an abbot of Iona, also 'Robert Kings', with principal names Robertson, Duncan and Reid, plus many sept names including: Collier, Connachie, Dobbie, Donachie, Duncanson, Hobson, Inches, MacConachie, MacInroy, MacIvor, MacRobert, Robbie, Robson, Roy, Stark and Tonnochy. English spelling did not become standardized until well into the 19 th century.
The Clan Donnachaidh Centre is in Scotland at Bruar, Pitlochry, Perthshire, PH18 5TW, and is run by the Clan Donnachaidh society, now a British Guarantee Company.
