Begin your day as you arrive in the House of Bruar car park. The Clan Donnachaidh Museum is the first charming set of buildings to your left, with flowerbeds and outside bench seating. The museum is open every day from 10am to 5pm and has a world of history to explore inside!
Learn about the Clan Donnachaidh (Robertsons, Duncans and Reids) who have left their mark in history, poems and stories. In the museum you can view the famous charm stone, the Clach na Brataich, as well as artefacts from the Jacobite uprisings.
Bring your most comfortable footwear and a few extra layers, ready to embark on a captivating journey through the pines trees and moss-covered boulders that edge Bruar Water as you walk up to the Bruar Falls. The trail is moderate with a clear path to follow. While this trail is perfect for beginners and for a leisurely stroll, the ground can be uneven in places and so we do recommend taking care as well as wearing supportive footwear.
This scenic trek offers visitors the mesmerizing sight and sound of Bruar Water, which gracefully flows through the surrounding woodland. The highlight of the walk is undoubtedly the spectacular Bruar Falls, where the water cascades down a series of rocky steps, creating a breathtaking spectacle. The viewing platforms along this trail offer the perfect picture opportunity so you can add to your memories of visiting Highland Perthshire.
This House of Bruar restaurant offers a culinary haven, allowing you to choose a lunch crafted from the finest locally sourced ingredients. Whether you crave traditional Scottish dishes or contemporary cuisine, the House of Bruar menu caters to diverse palates. If a cup of tea or coffee with a sweet treat is what you are looking for, the conservatory seating is home to light bites, cakes and traybakes.
High-quality local Scottish products can be purchased in the House of Bruar food hall. There is also a wide choice of premium items in the fashion and home departments.
Ready to see more serene and tranquil landscapes of Scotland? Take a drive round to Struan Kirk - and follow the Struan Kirk Trail - a looped trail that starts and ends in Struan and offers dramatic views of the River Garry. There is limited parking but it is usually possible to park close to the entrance of Old Struan Church, steeped in Clan history and with breathtaking surroundings for such a historical landmark.
There are various modes in which you can make your way to the Museum at Bruar, the best and quickest mode depends on where you are coming from and how much time you have inbetween journeys!
Depending on where you start your journey, whether it is Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness or even Aberdeen, you will typcially take the A9 either north or south bound. This is one of Scotland's most popular roads connecting the north and south, with Bruar virtually in the middle.
Look for signs and exits for Bruar. The museum is within the first buildings on the left as you approach the House of Bruar.
The nearest fuel station is at Blair Atholl, four miles from Bruar on the B8079. .
Free parking is offered throughout the site of the House of Bruar with a dedicated area for those who may be travelling by car with a dog or family pet.
The bus from Perth Bus Station to Inverness stops at the House of Bruar (journey time one hour). It is also possible to get a bus from Perth Bus Station to Pitlochry and then take a bus from Pitlochry to Bruar (total time from Perth approximately one and a half hours; total time from Pitlochry around 35 minutes).
Although there is no direct train station at Bruar, we are a short distance from the picturesque town of Pitlochry which has an attractive railway station that is on the main Highland line, connecting the South, as far down as London, to the North in Inverness. This means if you are travelling by train from any of Scotland's main cities, such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth or Inverness, Pitlochry is where you want to terminate your train journey to visit us here at the Clan Donnachaidh Museum.
Pitlochry > Bruar
Although the train station is in Pitlochry, from here, you can take a bus or private taxi with local transport company - Elizabeth Yule.
Elizabeth Yule runs the local bus serices fromHFisher's hotel with a full return timetable. Alternatively they also offer private taxis if you would like to arrange one to drop you off with us at Bruar directly.
