A few overseas members have been asking whether it would be possible to have "virtual" (electronic) access to at least some part of the Clan AGM in Scotland. This has come up because of the pandemic’s restrictive impact on travel both last year and this year, but the Clan Council has taken the idea on board and will now think more carefully about developing and perhaps expanding this concept for the longer-term future.
In the meantime, we have decided to set up a trial "happy hour" virtual get-together this year, for what can probably be only a limited number of people, on Zoom. Timing will be from 6 p.m. British Summer Time (10 a.m. on the U.S. and Canadian West Coast and 1 p.m. on the East Coast) on the Saturday after the AGM, August 21st.
We do appreciate that this will not be convenient for members in Australia and New Zealand for example, but hope people will understand that suiting all parts of the globe is simply impossible. The format will be quite short and inevitably experimental, but we envisage a brief report on the AGM from the Chair, a chance for attendees to see and hear some members of the Clan Council, and an opportunity to ask questions, exchange greetings, and last but not least to raise a glass – real or virtual – to the Chief and his family.
Members with the necessary computer/phone equipment and with access to Zoom who are definitely planning to attempt to join this exercise should please email both the Clan Secretary (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Stephanie Robertson (email@example.com) to register interest. Those who register should receive an email some days before the event with an invitation including instructions how to join.
