Message sent to the Clan from 21st Chief during WW II

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe, here are extracts from a newspaper article quoting a letter sent in 1941 by George Duncan Robertson, the 21st Chief, who was resident in Jamaica, to Mr Charles Guthrie, Hon. Secretary of the Clan Donnachaidh Society (Edinburgh District).

The article also reported ...

'Now over 70 years of age, the Chief of Clan Donnachaidh has not been in the best of health, it appears from the letter to Mr Guthrie, and for some months he has had to live an inactive life. A solicitor and retired civil servant, he has had an interesting public career on the Island of Jamaica. He was a former Mayor, and is at present an Alderman of St Andrew, Jamaica.'

"This is to express to you and your family, to the members of the Clan, and the entire people of Scotland my very great grief over the frightful air attacks, resulting in so much loss of life and property. It is difficult to find words to express my feelings of horror at the atrocities committed and my sympathy with one and all. We have got news of what is taking place, and we are praying for our bretheren over there who are suffering so terribly...
